- Sleeve Gastrectomy - About 66% excess weight loss has been reported with this operation
- Adjustable Gastric Band - About 60% excess weight loss has been reported
- Proximal Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass
- Medial Roux-en-y - Gastric Bypass - Patients tend to lose roughly 80% of excess weight on average
- Duodenal Switch - Patients lose roughly 75-80% of excess weight on the average
I want the Duodenal Switch, or as I call it, the switch, because it has one of the highest excess weight loss, plus has the best long term success with keeping the weight off.
Then I had my consultation with Dr. Srikanth. And he asked me which procedure I wanted, and I told him. Then he told me what he thought I should have.
He said the switch is a great choice, but my stomach is too firm, and I would have to lose X amount of weight. I am not still too sure about the firm stomach thing, but the losing X amount of weight I understood. Dr. Srikanth said that if I lose the weight that is needed before the surgery, in the time I wanted, then he would be more than willing to revisit the switch as an option.
The suggestion was to have a two part surgery. First have the sleeve, and lose the weight needed to have the switch and then some. Then in about two years go back and do the procedure of the switch. Well I can't afford that! So then he said the next best option would be the Medial Roux-en-y - Gastric Bypass, but is scared the heck out of me with the chance of body odor caused from it! And he couldn't explain how bad the body order could get.
So, the two options are laid out. If I can lose the weight that Dr. S wants, then I am so down with the switch. But if I can't then the Medial Roux-en-y - Gastric Bypass, I think would be the next best option.
Now, before anything else can get started! There is a diet I have to follow, and I am scared of it, but since I want this so badly, I am going to do it. I start that tomorrow! Eeeekkkk!
Gonna keep you on your toes about the diet, until hopefully tomorrow, and then other updates with other appoints coming up! Wooo, I am starting to get really excited about this!
